This week Gunnner fans will LOVE our Famous Player Logo series. I’m pleased to present one of the most notable German (Turkish) footballer in recent times, Mesut Özil.
In 2013, the new Arsenal man signed a sponsorship deal with biggest sportswear company in Germany and Europe, and the second largest in the world, Adidas. Shortly after Ozil and Adidas introduced their brand new logo.
“Why should I subdue the world, if I can enchant it.” (Özil.com)
The new identity of Mesut Ozil, was developed in partnership by one of the most popular advertising agencies Ogilvy&Mather, and Sky Media Network.
The following work is by Esra Gulmen Buyukdoganay, an illustrator/art director at Ogilvy&Mather.
Note: This mark is not terrible… I like the simplicity, which ties with Ozil’s style of play (simple precise passes that make his opponents turn in circles). The ‘O’ that wraps around the two dots (Diaeresis) feels a bit heavy, but allows the space to be filled with colorful patterns, images, or gradiants. Overall, I feel like this mark is missing an “aha moment” or something.
What do you think of the new Gunner’s logo?
